Hayden’s a local Māpua lad with saltwater in his veins and a lifelong love of fishing. After years running an outdoor business, making the move onto the water felt like a natural next step.
Tasman Bay was a big part of the pull - with its incredible fishing and coastline, it’s one of the main reasons Hayden and his family made the move up from Christchurch. Now, he gets to share those same waters with locals and visitors alike.
With a deep respect for nature and a passion for getting people out on the water, Hayden skippers Māpua Adventure Charters, helping others slow down, explore Tasman Bay, and reconnect with the simple joy of being at sea.
Our Story
Māpua Adventure Charters is a family-run boat charter business based at Māpua Wharf, near Nelson.
We run custom charters across Tasman Bay and the Abel Tasman coast: fishing trips, Abel Tasman sightseeing tours, D'Urville Island days, family outings and picnics on the water.
We started MAC because we love this stretch of coast and wanted to share it with visitors and locals in a relaxed, small-group way. Every trip is run by us, so you get the same care and local knowledge whether you're chasing snapper or cruising past Split Apple Rock.
We run a Senator 690 powered by a Honda BF250. She's built tough for Tasman waters but is smooth and comfortable for a day of cruising. With small groups of up to 7 guests, there's plenty of room to fish, take photos and enjoy the view.
